Hand and wrist injuries account for 5 – 10% of all emergency room visits. These patients are initially assessed by emergency room physicians and triaged whether it requires emergency surgical care or medical care. Although hand and wrist injuries are rarely life-threatening, the risk for permanent loss of limb function is relatively high if not promptly managed or wrongly diagnosed.
